The day began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting the tricolour at the Red Fort, assisted by Flying Officer Rashika Sharma. The ceremony was marked by a spectacular shower of flower petals from two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force, one carrying the national flag and the other the ‘Operation Sindoor’ flag, piloted by Wing Commanders Vinay Poonia and Aditya Jaiswal. Several cricketing greats also shared their wishes. Sachin Tendulkar kept it simple yet powerful, posting “Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” on X. ICC chairman Jay Shah called for unity and a peaceful future, while ODI captain Rohit Sharma posted a picture with the national flag. T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav wrote, “Happy Independence Day, India. Always working hard to win for us.”
