NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals suffered a major blow during their Indian Premier League 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday as captain Sanju Samson walked off retired hurt in visible discomfort during the sixth over of their run chase.
Samson, who was in terrific touch, had just hit a four and a six off the first two balls of the over bowled by DC spinner Vipraj Nigam. However, on the very next delivery — a no-ball — he attempted a fierce slash and missed. Immediately after the shot, he clutched his side and called for medical attention, indicating pain in his ribs.

Despite receiving treatment and taking strike for the free-hit, Samson clearly wasn’t comfortable. He hit the ball towards long-on but didn’t attempt a run. In visible pain, the RR skipper decided to walk off after scoring 31 off 19 deliveries, laced with three sixes and two fours. He had earlier stitched a quick 61-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal in just 5.3 overs.
Who’s that IPL player?
Earlier, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive 188/5, powered by impactful knocks from Axar Patel (34 off 14) and Tristan Stubbs (34 off 18). Abhishek Porel top-scored with 49, while KL Rahul chipped in with 38. Jofra Archer was the pick of RR bowlers with 2 for 32.
Samson’s injury now casts a shadow over RR’s campaign, with updates awaited on the severity.
